Metrorock Practices

Open Practice Schedule and Logistics

A couple times a week, we take a trip to Metrorock: Everett to rock climb. Everyone is welcome to join us for these events (even if you’re not “officially a member of the club”–whatever that means anyway). Feel free to stay for as much or as little of the scheduled practice time as you’d like. One of us will be somewhere around the gym for the duration of these practices if you ever need help or just someone to climb with.

Our recurring open practice times at Metrorock are on Tuesdays @ 6:30pm & Saturdays @ 4:30pm. Please make sure to fill out the waiver in advance.

Spontaneous trips may also be organized in the Messenger group chat, so stay tuned! Metrorock has bouldering, top rope, and lead climbing routes. They have around 9 routes on auto-belays, too. If you need instruction on top rope belay, membership classes take place at Metro on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:30p. If you have a membership, you can sign up for this class for free! You can also rent shoes, harnesses, and ATCs from the gym if you need them. If you come during our practice times, rental gear is provided for free with the day pass/membership.

Directions and Transportation

Metrorock: Everett is located at 69 Norman St #9, Everett, MA 02149. There are a couple of ways to get there:

  • Van (Recommended): During the practices that we hold twice a week, a van arrives at the Kresge Turnaround to shuttle us to/from the gym. At present, this shuttle operates on a first come, first serve basis. We unfortunately cannot guarantee that everyone will be able to ride in the van, as it has a max capacity of 14 climbers.
  • Car/Rideshare: The gym is about 20-25 minutes away by car. (The gym has a sizeable parking lot.)
  • Bicycle/Scooter/etc.: The gym doesn’t have an indoor bike garage, but they mentioned you could bring a scooter inside if you’d like. Otherwise, there’s a bike rack outside. It takes about 35-40 minutes to bike there, and I’d recommend going along the river and taking the bike path by the green line to avoid cars.
  • Train: Metrorock is closest to the Wellington T stop on the orange line. The gym offers a complimentary shuttle to/from this station–just give them a call ~5-10 minutes before you arrive.

Pricing

For members of MIT Climbing Club, monthly memberships are $60. It’s also important to note that once you sign up, you cannot cancel until three months have passed. Further, since these memberships are heavily discounted, they do not come with a guest pass. If you’d like to take advantage of the reduced rate, tag along to one of our practices and one of our exec members will help set you up. Without a membership, day passes (with gear included) are $20 during our practices.

We know that our sport is an expensive one. If the cost of climbing poses a financial burden, please do not hesitate to reach out to us for financial assistance.
